OK start for ABC's 'Man Up'

A unique off-evening edition of ''The X Factor'' stored Fox on the top of Tuesday among teenagers, as the CBS drama selection won in the target demo. ABC's Tim Allen comedy ''Last Guy Standing'' were built with a good second-week showing, and also the new show behind it, ''Man Up,'' did OK in the debut. Based on preliminary national estimations from Nielsen, ''The X Factor'' averaged a 3.8 rating/10 share and 10.a million audiences overall , lower from the season average but much better than each of its airings a week ago inside a frame which was disrupted by baseball. Fox brought its two-hour block in grown ups 18-49 as well as capped the 3-hour earnings of ABC, CBS and NBC. The existence of ''X Factor'' had an impact on the truth shows opposite it, as both NBC's two-hour ''The Greatest Loser'' (1.9/5 in 18-49, 5.two million audiences overall) and ABC's 9 p.m. ''Dancing Using the Stars'' results show (2.6/6 in 18-49, 13.5 million audiences overall) lower week to week. At ABC, ''Last Guy Standing'' (3./9 in 18-49, 10.two million audiences overall) maintained nearly 90% of their 18-49 score within the 8 o'clock half-hour a week ago and again provided nice time-period enhancements, placing third in the half-hour among 18-49ers. It had been then the debut of ''Man Up'' (2.4/6 in 18-49, 7.8 million audiences overall), which did OK though a network usually loves to see better retention for any new 8:30 half-hour because of rising television usage in those days it had been up slightly over ABC's performance at 8:30 on a single evening last year. CBS, the night's leader in 25-54 and total audiences, ruled Tuesday's opening hour with ''NCIS'' (3.8/10 in 18-49, 19. million audiences overall), which tied ''X Factor'' because the night's No. 1 show in 18-49 while standing alone because the top attract both grown ups 25-54 (4.7/10) and total audiences. As the original was lower slightly week to week, 9 p.m. spinoff ''NCIS: Los Angeles'' held steady (3.3/8 in 18-49, 15.3 million audiences overall), placing second in 18-49, tying ''X Factor'' in 25-54 (4.7/10) and winning as a whole audiences. At 10 p.m., CBS rookie ''Unforgettable'' (2.5/6 in 18-49, 11.9 million audiences overall) demonstrated its first week-to-week gains in 18-49 and also got nearer to the delivery of ''The Good Wife'' within the timeslot this past year. It won the hour over NBC's ''Parenthood'' (2./5 in 18-49, 5. million audiences overall), which matched up last week's score, and ''Body of Proof'' (1.9/5 in 18-49, 9.5 million audiences overall), that was also consistent with its newest episode. Preliminary 18-49 earnings for that evening: Fox, 3.8/10 CBS, 3.2/8 ABC, 2.4/6 NBC, 1.9/5 Univision, 1.5/4 CW, .8/2. As a whole audiences: CBS, 15.4 million ABC, 10.7 million Fox, 10.a million NBC, 5.a million Univision, 3.3 million CW, 1.six million. Contact Ron Kissell at ron.kissell@variety.com
